What is it about driving that always makes me kind of sentimental? Maybe it’s the fact that you’re leaving something behind and things will never be the exact same way again. So I’m writing this on my phone in the car driving back to Santa Cruz from a weekend trip in Tahoe.

My heart is full of love and happiness but I’m also feeling a bit of sadness. Cause my trip is coming to an end and I wish I could stay. Everything has been amazing. As always.

So Tahoe. Tina’s birthday weekend! Emma, Matt, Sonny and I left Santa Cruz around noon on Friday and headed north. Not early enough to beat the crazy Bay Area traffic but eventually we approached our destination. Stopped to get some apparently famous pies on the way, cause what’s a birthday without treats?!

We arrive at the campsite and get out of the car but there is no sudden feel of relief. The freeway is still in sight from the campsite and it’s pretty loud too. There’s a pronounced smell of dog poop, the river does not look like something we want to swim in and on top of all that all the campsites around us have dogs that are not very friendly to Sonny (the dog).

We just drove for six hours to spend a nice weekend in the mountains and everything about this place is so bad we can’t keep ourselves from laughing. But what do you do at 7.30 on a Friday night when you’re the first to arrive to the campsite on a trip that you were invited on and there are three more cars coming in later?Luckily Matt had the courage to make a decision and we decided to drive to a campground 40 minutes away where he had stayed before. Should be nice and right by a lake.
